Summit counselors work with teachers, division heads and parents to foster each student's positive emotional, social, moral and cognitive development, and general well-being. Counselors contribute to the team by providing regularly scheduled classroom guidance activities to teach character education, address class needs, and current student culture. Counselors also provide individual and small group counseling, student observation, and consultation. In addition to working directly with students and providing support services, the counselors participate in parent education opportunites throughout the year. Confidentiality: In accordance with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) student and parent interactions with the school counselor are considered confidential. The counselor may share relevant information with school staff working directly with a student. The school counselors work with students, faculty, and parents to enhance academic, social, and emotional lives of students. Due to the nature of school counseling, school counselors are unable to provide testimony in custody matters and intensive long-term counseling services. School counselors are equipped to make referrals for families and students in need of long-term counseling, psycho-educational assessments, and/or family support services. School counselors are also equipped to consult with these other professionals to address students' needs at school. |
